On May 22, Parc Oméga and its Foundation hosted the opening reception of an art exhibition highlighting the monarch butterfly, an iconic insect threatened with extinction. Five large mosaic works, created by participants from the Association des Personnes handicapées de Papineau (APHP), were unveiled on this occasion.

Before the works were created, the Fondation du Parc Oméga offered an awareness workshop on the monarch, enabling the apprentice artists to learn more about this insect’s life cycle, its crucial ecological role, and the threats to its survival. This educational activity inspired them to create, under the guidance of mosaic artist Marilyne Milette, magnificent mosaics illustrating the monarch’s development and its connection to milkweed.

The exhibition of these works continues at Parc Oméga, with the aim of raising visitors’ awareness of the worrying situation facing this butterfly and fostering greater awareness of the importance of protecting biodiversity.

This project came to life thanks to a partnership between the APHP, the Fondation Parc Oméga, the Centre d’action culturelle de la MRC de Papineau, and with financial support from Loisir Sport Outaouais.
