On May 22, Parc Oméga and its Foundation hosted the opening of an art exhibition highlighting the Monarch butterfly, an emblematic insect threatened with extinction. Five large-scale mosaic works, created by participants from the Association des Personnes Handicapées de Papineau (APHP), were unveiled for the occasion.
Prior to creating the works, the Fondation du Parc Oméga offered an awareness-raising workshop on the monarch, enabling apprentice artists to learn more about this insect’s life cycle, its crucial ecological role, and the threats to its survival. This educational activity inspired them to create, under the direction of mosaic artist Marilyne Milette, magnificent mosaics illustrating the evolution of the monarch and its link with milkweed.
The exhibition of these works continues at Parc Oméga, with the aim of raising awareness of the butterfly’s worrying situation and of the importance of protecting biodiversity.
This project was made possible thanks to a partnership between APHP, Fondation Parc Oméga, the Centre d’action culturelle de la MRC de Papineau, and the financial support of Loisir Sport Outaouais.
